"Beast" fuel dragster

Back in the summer of '66 I saw a fuel dragster that went by the name of "Beast from the East" at a local dragstrip and took a photo of it which inspired me to build the "Beast" a couple of years ago. I actually finished this just before the re-issue of Tommy Ivo's dragster was released as this dragster was made from the original issue that was molded in orange plastic.

On the body I had to slightly widen the cockpit opening and I added the "wings" on the outside behind the cockpit which were made from Evergreen sheet stock. the dragons head was cut off a toy that I had found at Hobby Lobby and the fins behind the head were made from plastic sheet stock also with Plastruct angle pieces for the base. The paint is all Testors lacquer and I didn't polish it as the dragon's skin isn't too glossy from the ones I saw. I made a longer push bar and I also used photo-etched Dzus fasteners from Pro-Tech. The rear wheels also have valve stems.

The engine was built pretty much out of the box with plug wires and fuel lines added and I may have scratch built a fuel block for it also. Of course as on most of my models, I added a drain plug in the oil pan as well. I did drill out the zoomie pipe ends too.
